I am Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in the College of Engineering and a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago. In this leadership role, I support graduate education, strengthen interdisciplinary programs, and advance initiatives that expand research and professional opportunities for graduate students. Before joining UIC, I was a tenure-track assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Purdue University Northwest from 2009 to 2015. From 2006 to 2009, I was a lecturer and postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Earlier in my career, from 1999 to 2002, I worked as a research engineer in the Technology Evolution and Standards Group at Microcell Inc. (now Rogers Communications) in Montreal. There, I evaluated emerging wireless technologies and contributed to major telecommunications standards organizations, including 3GPP and T1P1. I earned my M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique–Énergie, Matériaux et Télécommunications (INRS-EMT), Université du Québec, in Montreal, Canada, in 1998 and 2006, respectively. I previously received the Diplôme d’Ingénieur in telecommunications from the École Supérieure des Communications de Tunis (SUP’COM), Tunisia. My research advances the frontiers of wireless communications, with an emphasis on developing innovative technologies that improve the capacity, reliability, efficiency, and intelligence of future wireless networks.

I currently serve as an Area Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking and as an editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society. Previously, I served as an editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, an associate editor for IEEE Communications Letters, and a lead guest editor for special issues of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications. Through these leadership and editorial roles, I contribute to shaping research directions and advancing innovation across the international wireless communications community.
